{"id":264,"date":"2014-02-23T21:23:09","date_gmt":"2014-02-24T03:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/?p=264"},"modified":"2014-02-24T19:37:11","modified_gmt":"2014-02-25T01:37:11","slug":"recipe-hack-frozen-yogurt-covered-fruit-kabobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/?p=264","title":{"rendered":"Recipe Hack: Frozen Yogurt-Covered Fruit Kabobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At our house, we\u2019re trying to substitute guilty snacks with healthier options, so last night I tried a variation on the following recipe (found via Pinterest): <a title=\"Frozen Yogurt Covered Blueberry Kabobs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com\/2012\/04\/frozen-yogurt-covered-blueberry-kabobs.html#more-1852\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com\/2012\/04\/frozen-yogurt-covered-blueberry-kabobs.html#more-1852<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Here are the ingredients I used:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Frozen mixed berries (I used just the blueberries and attempted to use the raspberries and blackberries* but only managed to get 1 raspberry on there)<\/li>\n<li>Fresh strawberries (about 10), washed and tops cut off<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd of a fresh banana, sliced<\/li>\n<li>6 wooden skewers<\/li>\n<li>Plain Noosa yogurt, mixed with a few drizzles of honey (you could really use any brand\/flavor of yogurt)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<address class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\">\n<dl class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" id=\"attachment_287\" style=\"width:310px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-1-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-287\" alt=\"Image of mixed fruit on wooden skewers, with yogurt\" src=\"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-1-11.jpg?w=300\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\"><em>Fruit (strawberries, blueberries, bananas, 1 raspberry), placed on wooden skewers; honey-infused yogurt<\/em><\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/address>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Here are the steps to take:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Let frozen fruit thaw on the counter for 10-or-so minutes*; prep the fresh fruit<\/li>\n<li>Spread a bunch of yogurt on a plate, drizzle generously with honey (if you&#8217;re using flavored yogurt, you can skip the honey), and mix together with a spoon<\/li>\n<li>Stab the fruit* with a skewer<\/li>\n<li>Roll the skewered fruit in the yogurt*<\/li>\n<li>Place the fruit kabobs in a mason jar or other container<\/li>\n<li>Stick \u2018em in the freezer (they freeze rather quickly)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<address class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\">\n<dl class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" id=\"attachment_288\" style=\"width:235px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-2-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-288\" alt=\"Image of fruit kabobs after being rolled in yogurt, then placed in a mason jar\" src=\"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-2-11.jpg?w=225\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\"><em>Skewered fruit, rolled in yogurt, then placed in a mason jar<\/em><\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/address>\n<p><em>*Lessons Learned:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>I don\u2019t know if it was the Noosa brand or what, but the yogurt seemed a little lumpy\u00a0<\/em><em>(even before adding the honey)\u00a0and hard to spread without my fruit getting all squirrel-y so I used a spoon\/my fingers to help completely cover the fruit.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The frozen rasp- and blackberries break apart when stabbed with the skewer; they&#8217;re probably cool if you wait for them to thaw\/use fresh ones.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The frozen blueberries are stab-able, if the skewer is wiggled-in, rather than attempting to pierce it straight through. (Or, you could just wait for them to thaw\/use fresh ones ^_^ )<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>I recommend slicing the strawberries before putting them on the skewer, to make them easier to eat when frozen.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<address class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\">\n<dl class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" id=\"attachment_289\" style=\"width:233px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-3-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-289\" alt=\"Image of frozen fruit kabobs in a mason jar\" src=\"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-3-11.jpg?w=223\" width=\"223\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\"><em>Frozen fruit kabobs in mason jar<\/em><\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/address>\n<p>I ate a couple of these today &#8211; super yummy AND easy to make! I bet you could even do mini-versions on toothpicks, if you don&#8217;t have the freezer space for tall ones.
