{"id":126,"date":"2013-08-10T11:22:46","date_gmt":"2013-08-10T17:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/?p=126"},"modified":"2013-09-09T21:39:35","modified_gmt":"2013-09-10T03:39:35","slug":"i-like-to-pretend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/?p=126","title":{"rendered":"I like to pretend&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;I\u2019m a food critique, mostly because I\u2019m pretty particular about what I put in my mouth (ha).<\/p>\n<p>The other day, my husband and I tried a new BBQ joint on South Broadway called <a title=\"View Gary Lee's Website\" href=\"http:\/\/garyleesmotorclubandgrub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Lee\u2019s Motor Club &amp; Grub<\/a>. Him being from Mississippi and me from Texas, we know some good \u2018Q when we eat it, so we were pretty excited to try this new (to us) spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On first glance:<\/strong> pretty sweet place. The d\u00e9cor is sorta motorcycle hipster chic, with lots of wood, exposed beams and ductwork, and a really nice, spacious patio facing Broadway. We sat right on the edge of indoor\/outdoor, where the garage doors open up to the patio.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The service: <\/strong>was good. Not great, but good. They\u2019re marketed as \u201chouse smoked jalape\u00f1os stuffed with cheese and wrapped with thinly sliced prosciutto\u201d. Let me tell you something: that prosciutto was most definitely NOT \u201cthinly\u201d sliced. I love prosciutto; this was more like thick-cut bacon. It was <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">very<\/span> smoky, and very flavorful, but I wish the prosciutto had been sliced thinner so that I could have enjoyed the stuffed jalape\u00f1os more. Instead, the overwhelming flavor of smoky meat was too much for me and I only ate one popper.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 497px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/dinner-closeup.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image\" id=\"i-131\" alt=\"Image of pulled Pork BBQ with Brussels Sprouts \" src=\"https:\/\/yamairah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/dinner-closeup.jpg?w=487\" width=\"487\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">I sort of forgot to take a picture BEFORE starting to eat :-)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>The main course:<\/strong> There was no bread*. We split the pulled pork with the Memphis BBQ sauce and the caramelized Brussels sprouts. The plating of the meat was a little sloppy, but hey, it\u2019s BBQ so it doesn\u2019t have to be neat. The Brussels sprouts were tasty, but a little al dente (I prefer the sprouts at <a title=\"Check out Steuben's Menu\" href=\"http:\/\/www.steubens.com\/menus\/lunch-dinner\" target=\"_blank\">Steuben\u2019s<\/a>). The pulled pork was on the moist side, which is great, but only if you have something to soak it up with (and Brussels sprouts don\u2019t really do a good job at that). I was displeased with their side selections: the only potato option they have is mashed (meh), and there were no corn OR corn bread* options (which are kind of BBQ-side-staples in my book).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The drinks: <\/strong>I had a spicy Bloody Mary and my hubby had a beer (Avery IPA). I made myself a BBQ sammich with some sliced Muenster cheese, chopped onions, and mayo on a bolillo bread roll. Cue chips and baby \u2018maters and I had myself one yummy lunch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The verdict:<\/strong> I wish they had bread. I would go back to try the tacos (which the waiter raved about, but\u2026 really? You\u2019re a BBQ place, not a taco place, come on now) or maybe a sandwich and definitely another side. Depending on that experience, I might even go back to try their brunch.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Score:<\/strong><b> 3 out of 5 <\/b>(I\u2019d go back)<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<address><i>*Okay, sure \u2013 if you order a sandwich, you will receive bread.
